The post you are reporting:
After working for 17 weeks, Monday to Friday, some weekends, some early mornings and evenings, without any sort of pay, I have been sacked.
The Dover Chamber of Commerce President, The Chief Executive and the Strategic Director have decided that I should no longer work for the Chamber.
I could go into a long string of excuses, but I believe it is because I have my own mind and from talking to many, many businesses in Dover, know the sort of help they need and want.
I have been working on many initiatives that I believe will help move Dover forward on many levels, including a comprehensive "Plan for Action" for Dover, as part of the Town Centre Rejuvination project; run-down buildings, empty shops; finishing off my Dover Tourism Strategy; pedestrian signage from De Bradelei's to the Town and from Morrisons to the Town and many, many, others.
The Board members felt I hadn't signed up enough businesses to DBS and those in the 3 positions above, didn't like me emailing direct, those Board members.
The agreed salary was £24,000, back on launch day; last week I was invited to sign a Contract of Employment with a salary of £9,500 ! Last night I was sacked - a "disconnect" had occured.
I'm not a puppet, I have my own mind on what needs doing and this is confirmed every day by different business people; indeed the Mayor has used many of my intiatives to help improve areas of the town.
Ask any business I had signed up to DBS, or any of those who were members of the Dover Loyalty Scheme I ran for two years, what they think.
Even if I say so myself, Dover once again loses a hardworking "champion".
Who else would work their socks off for over 17 weeks ? - that's over four months, unpaid and then get the sack.
Roger
