This should appeal to some of the regulars here, to quote from the website -
"Do you love England? Are you proud of the Country's glorious history and heritage? Then why not become a member of The Royal Society of St. George? Membership is open to all people who share our love of England and Englishness."
I'm a committe member of the Dover branch, one of the oldest in existence, and we're always looking for new members. Regular events that we enjoy are:
- carrying the Cross of St George at the annual Zeebrugge Raid memorial ceremony on St George's Day (then retiring to a local hostelry)
- a service at St Mary's church in the castle followed by lunch on the nearest Sunday to St George's Day (held at the yacht club last year)
- a lunch on the nearest Sunday to Trafalgar Day (held at The Fox last year)
Membership brings with it three copies a year of the society journal which is a very interesting read, a lapel badge and the opportunity to buy a stylish polyester tie among other goodies!
You can join through the website for £25 a year but it is better (and cheaper) to join the local branch directly. This means we get more of your money to keep locally and after minimal expenses are taken we use any excess left from membership and events to benefit local organisations. In recent years this has gone to helping Dover Sea Cadets and with more members we would be able to offer even more help.
Anyone interested can let me know through the email below, or forum members can use my usual email from my profile, and I'll get a membership form to you.
