Double-decker buses have taken to Jersey's roads as drivers prepare for their public use later this month. The first time since 1970.All fares are half price during the trial period.
A two-week trial, along the bus route from St Helier to the airport, is due to begin on 26 April.

And in Paris they even manage to squeeze double deckers in to the Metro system!

Don`t forget our own Southern Region Bullied double decker examples, of 1948, which ran from Dartford and carried 122 more passengers than a 4 car unit. Interesting pictures above. Hope you`re sleeping better Marek.

Going back to your original topic Marek, just wondered what`s behind it all mate? Are they replacing coaches? 1970 seems a long time ago. Are you busier there now?

I've never been on a double decker tube in Paris but did manage one in Sydney. I love them (and the old double decker buses.) I didn't know we ever tried them here Colin.

Not totally sure what the reasoning behind it is but read somewhere that the coach company hope to increase passenger capacity without taking on more staff. But it will be a lovely way to see the island and over the garden walls of the rich and famous?
Pretty awful colour scheme ...though I suspect that if it is taken on full time its livery will be altered to match the other buses..sky blue.

I wondered who would do that, it's making me want to go and by one, haven't had a Double Decker in years.

The best thing about double deckers, as we all know but few admit, is that if you can get a front seat on top you can pretend to be driving.
This also works with the Docklands Light Railway.
Well that's what I do anyway!

Yes Jeane, we did have double decker electric trains on the Southern region. They were the brainchild of Oliver Bullied, better known for his steam locomotive designs. They weren`t too popular, as passenger`s were trying to get off while others were trying to get on. You can get more info on the internet, as I could go on with all this. Marek, I like that bus livery personally, but I think after a while, it may become tiring. I suspect the local rich will be planting fast growing conifers in their back gardens shortly?

That airstrip looks a bit barren! That plane looks a bit red! Blimey, it's the Red Baron, where's Snoopy when you need him?

A snip at $650,000:
The bus's low floor is designed to make it easier for seniors and customers with disabilities to board, while eliminating the need for a complicated wheelchair lift. Roberts stated that "one significant advantage is their ability to carry a large number of passengers but take up a smaller street footprint than an articulated bus."

Ah yes, the Fokker tri-plane, which I used to have the Airfix model of, along with the Sopwith Camel. Don`t know if they still make them Andy. They were good Fokkers.
