    Yes, Howard!
Paul considers me illiterate in this subject, and yet, the Civil War was sparked off by one event most of all:
King Charles went with an English Army to Scotland to impose the English Book of Prayer.
The Scots returned with an Army to England, there was a short battle, the English retreated, the Scots did not pursue so as to limit the English losses, and asked for an agreement.

The King, furious, started enlisting an army in Ireland to invade Scotland, as the English were largely unwilling to fight the Scots, and within this context, England's Parliament then disbanded.
The Rump Parliament made an agreement with the Scots and the War in England started between Parliament's Army, commanded by the Earl of Essex, and the Royalists, commanded by King Charles and his nephew Rupert of the Rhine, the first major battle being at Edgehill.

The Civil War was to be fought in England, Scotland, Ireland (where Cromwell was renowned for his excesses and slaughters), and even Wales, where some Roundhead regiments rebelled after the Civil War.

This was just a brief summary written in 3 minutes out of my head in response to your post above, and with no referencing. Obviously a proper account would be more detailed and take up more pages.

    Hi Paul
