The problem with 'letting it evolve' is that you will end up with two large regional authorities blurring the lines of who deals with what while town and parish councils are expected to make up the differences, without adequate funding, resources or authority to do so properly. In theory a steady evolution could be desirable but in practice it will lead to more demarcation problems, and probably more blame passing.

Keith, I really do have a problem knowing who this imaginary alliance you talk about is, it bears no relation to the Alliance I belong to. We can and do work with people from all parties if we feel they are right in what they propose for the town. We do not discriminate on party lines nor do we take sides in other parties internal divisions.
