As I have said on another thread the truth is that the majority of benefits are actually paid to working people as opposed to those out of work;
Of course that does not fit with the image the government want to portray so we see a procession of stories about what are actually the anomalies but are portrayed as the norm so as to reinforce the message.
The other thing government never publicises is the huge level of under claiming of benefits, again predominately by working people (last figures published by ONS estimated this to be in the region of £16bn) mostly driven by the fear that if the DWP cock up and overpay they will not be in a position to repay it.
