    I spoke to David Davis a few years ago when he wanted a copy of some work I had done, the force of his personality and intellect was evident just over a short phone call.

    I remember him blind-siding the media when he called a press conference after a round of the leadership contest and they all thought he was going to do a public laying-into Cameron when he in fact announced his withdrawal and support for Cameron. I thought then that he was just biding his time and that seems to be the case.

    Of course the one group who would dread him being Conservative leader are the LibDems - that tail wouldn't be able to wag this particular dog.
