From DHB ;-
The inner wave wall, which was the first step of potential solutions identified to address this long- wave phenomenon, has clearly delivered significant improvement (also observed by contractors working on the pontoons) and we have continued to monitor this during stormy weather.
Following last week’s storm, we have unfortunately recognised that under certain conditions, these improvements will not be adequate to provide acceptable conditions in the Marina and we therefore need to move to the next step, which is to scope out an additional outer wave wall to further improve conditions. This therefore means that we have reluctantly made the decision to postpone the transition, which is now likely to take place in 2022 to enable us to implement this extra measure and continue with our extensive testing.

At least they have finally started owning up to it, they had been denying anything was wrong for nearly 2 years!

Years ago when I was doing Civil Engineering at Manchester Uni in the early seventies I can remember physical models of estuaries and suchlike to look at the effects of quays/jetties etc being built, on current/wave height etc.
In the past half century with the advent of computer modelling the science has come on in leaps and bounds and whatever DHB say this whole fiasco can only be laid at the door of the totally incompetent design team.
Fluid mechanics/dynamics is NOT an easy subject BUT we have the technology (and have had it for years) and building a marina within a harbour is hardly at the cutting edge of marine civil engineering.
Pay peanuts. Get monkeys. Should have gone for Arup!

Did aerodynamics in the late 80's as part of my Mech. engr. apprenticeship and we could have made a better job of it than they have, with pencil on paper.

Bob, I was working in Manchester 1972-74 and living in Sale, Altrincham, Stockport and Hale Barns so we must have frequented the same boozers occasionally.

Could of done with fluid dynamics when the decided to make Samphire Hoe.. Since then Shakespeare beach has been washed away.. The bottom of the cliff is being eroded.
The locals knew this would happen.. but did not need any experts

Well they did that so that Aycliffe would eventually collapse into the sea.

No matter what anyone says, DHB are so important to the town and they have delivered vast improvements over the past 10 years whether we like to give them that or not.
The reality is this: The marina is great, and will be completed in due course.
It could have been Crossrail which they say might NEVER be completed!!!!

Errrr, like what?
Kiboshed McArthurGlen being built at Whitfield?
Pushed for M20/A20 through AONB with associated traffic problems rather than coming round Dover to join A2 opening up hinterland to development of such as distribution centres/warehousing?
Filled in harbour with DWDR which they propose to top out with an upmarket portacabin village?

Salaries look like a nice little earner for our friend Mr Wiggins I notice .
For today's high Tech, it is surprising these errors occur
