I was talking to a young lady at a function on Sunday morning and she came up with the idea of the DHB community fund contributing to help finance Kelly Turner in receiving the treatment that she so desperately needs in the United States.I thought this was a brilliant idea and it would certainly demonstrate the community engagement element that is surely the funds raison d'etre.

I feel it is a very dangerous precedent to prioritize medical help for an individual. Who is suffering from a disease which affects, and has touched so many . That is many, many, unsung needs and needy.
The DHB Community Fund is sparse and parsimonious, anyway. If you take a good look at how it is distributed, it is for the Community and not for individuals.
This is an opinion and not a judgement on the Kelly Turner predicament.

Hi Christine,I thought that could be the case, but a one off donation may start the ball rolling so other large organisations become more involved.I gather both Morrison's and Tesco's,there are other super markets available, have donated or set up structures so that donations could be made.Imagine the good will that could be generated by a moments generosity from an institution that is so entwined both physically and emotionally with the town and the district.

There are collection boxes for Kelly in every business I use in Dover I honestly don't think the town needs any further goodwill it seems all encompassing.

Hi Howard, you know that there can never be to much goodwill in the world and I have just received some great advice from a long time friend of the Forum. This is what being a part of community is all about.

What annoys me is when well known people appeals for donations £50.000.00 for a fight against a cancerous disease, gets a donation straight away, and yet a young girl of 16 that is still at school, and from a working class family has a rare disease asks for financial help, nothing is given, does this young lady not count, at least the people of Dover and surrounding area can be proud of what the have done so far and what they will continue to do, to support Kelly in achieving that goal
