Lloyds List are reporting that DFDS is making some 30 redundancies in Dover. Surprising and worrying given the fact that they must be benefiting from the Seafrance situation.

Oh dear! that is a shocker Kevin. They are running an extra ship too. Perhaps its just a seasonal thing..hope so anyway as according to reports all the ships are busy with freight etc at the moment. So a bit bewildering.

it does seem rather strange timing, they have been running fuller than ever.
we all assume that rates will go up once sea france are out of the equation too.

This is rather worrying news, lets hope it is just a seasonable thing as PaulB suggests.
I drove to Surrey at the weekend and there were absolutely no trucks around on the motorway except for the very odd one. It was distincly eerie not to see the usual hordes of trucks. Is this due to Seafrance's absence.

Here is a picture of the Docks a few moments ago...empty again. I used a similar picture on the frontpage...still there, this is not the same one...no ships again. To be fair a DFDS one had just left but it all looks like demand has slowed.
Colette according to reports there has been a slump in our Euro trade due to the Eurozone crisis. it may be having an effect in Dover and particularly on the volume of trucks passing through.
This is greed, they used to do there crossing to dunkirk in 1hour and 15 mins now its over two hours 15mins this is done so they say to save on the fuel but talk to staff and they will tell you the longer your on the boat the more money you are likely to spend.
Like the French I would love to see the back of them and have one company deal with the lot and at the moment you can go on the tunnel for £22 day return and its no good saying local people will suffer they don't employ local people all eastern Europeans well may be a couple of managers. there is an old saying You Reap What You Sow.

Are you sure about 75 minutes to Dunkirk Alan? that seems extremely fast.

To do Dunkirk in an hour and a quarter they would have to do over 30kt, that would probably shake out everyone's fillings.

A Big Big Sorry Yes when it was norfolkline the crossing time was 1 hour and 45 mins i was getting confused with P&O to Calais, but it is now 2 and quarter from dover to dunkirk
