Many people I speak to...say the powers that be detest Dover....they do not live in it, nor care for it.....
The destruction of York Street, Snargate Street, Townwall Street, have been a huge betrayal of the townspeoples hope that Dover would be regenerated after the War....even in the l960's because these areas were the Town Centre of Dover a vibrant shopping centre and homes were promised
Everything was flattened for the Port and Lorries, and somewhere along the way, pockets were fully lined.....IMO
Many would like to clear the top of Dover District Council out....the secretive MI5/autocratic attitudes etc....
Somewhere it would have been wonderful for a Champion like Roger de Haan to have made money here and ploughed it back into the town...
These new proposals are doomed, and pretty awful.... until the Town is fully joined to the Port/Harbour and Seafront.....the Port traffic should leave the Town either side of it....the structures are there...and it could happen......
The plus side now, is that there is the Inter-net and technology to at least keep tabs on these glossy proposals, and to at least try to call someone into account.
It is a terrible situation.......
