Dover needs two things it seems to me. A hospital of sorts and new homes. Connaught Barracks is ideal for both but has stood empty for years. If we'd allowed it to be another prison at least we would have had jobs for locals rather than an empty site.
I thought the campaigners from the political ranks knew there was a readymade alternative use for the site, but it seems today all they've acheived is stopping something that may have helped the local economy. Cutting nose, spiting face and all that.
