I am not a fan of Deal pier or the cafe.
Charging fishermen £9.50 and youngsters £6.30 per day to fish, while the general public are allowed on for free, in my opinion, is distasteful.
The café is far too expensive for me and is not contusive to fishermen who are the ones being charged for the privilege of using the pier. The previous café was far more popular and fisherman friendly, in my opinion.
However, with my wife visiting her mother, I took the opportunity to pop out to the café and have a look for myself. Some seats have been removed to accommodate the bins and they were clean and tidy and not obstructing any walkway. Although these bins are unsightly in design, they are a necessity to his operations and I fail to see what else he could do, except to make sure that he keeps them clean and tidy. Perhaps someone has already had a word with him, the shopping trolley was not there today but I'm told it is used for local shopping, avoiding taking car onto the pier.
Also, he was very busy, so he must be doing something right.
