The Press release,
7-10-11. DTFC Press Release pending Police and Fire officers reports.
The Chairman, Directors, Players and Supporters club members are devastated at the fire which raged through the new club house yesterday. The new clubhouse and community facility has been completely destroyed and some damage has been caused to the adjacent stands, pitch-side hoardings, floodlights and the pitch itself.
Additionally, the ball that was used in the Wembley 2000 FA Vase win and the trophy presented by the KCFA, have both been lost to the club and to Deal.
These cannot be replaced in the way the building and infrastructure can.
The Directors will not let this tragedy harm the Club and they are already making plans in the short term (the Match Secretary has, today Friday, asked the KCFA to rearrange the Cup Match scheduled for tomorrow 8th October) and the Directors and Supporters club are meeting tonight (Friday) to plan the next few weeks and for the longer term.
The buildings and surrounds are insured with the District Council's Insurers; however we now call on everyone in Deal to support the club and volunteers in our endeavours to complete the plan to restore the New Clubhouse at the Charles Sports ground and to join us in overcoming this adversity.
The Police and Fire Brigade were tremendous and we are all thankful that there were no injuries or fatalities. The cause of the fire is unknown at present and the relevant bodies are investigating. If anyone does have any knowledge about the cause of this fire, we urge them to phone the police as soon as possible.
We are overwhelmed at the messages of support the club has already received from both local and Kent football communities and if anyone has any offers of help, please let the club know.
A "Fire" Fund bank account will be set up as early as possible and we will be starting a fund raising campaign to start the restoration process as soon as possible. We will be asking for donations and pledges towards this and the bank details will be made public as soon as it is open.
