I don't think that there is any need for alarm. This is not a case of anything being removed, but of things being added, in this case the ledge that you see.
If longshore drift was capable of this then the people living in Betteshanger will have clifftop properties within the year.
The ledge that can be seen has been built up, working as a service route running the length of the beach. The level of the beach (where the lady is with her dog) is where it has always been, the existing groynes providing a datum. The bullnose of the original defensive wall is now level this man made ledge, where in the summer it was a 4ft drop from the wall/path to the beach below..
It is remarkable the amount off work being done and at times quite disconcerting as it seems almost erratic...which of course it's not. The plans are up in The Royal and show the extent of this massive project.
It is a real shame that the beach has to tampered with but necessary I suppose. My only real dislike is the new sea wall being constructed by the shellfish stall, really quite ugly.
