16:3971700We have had the usual array of guzzling summer imbibers frequenting the seafront shelter. After a while it is no longer a shelter, as ordinary seafront strollers are reluctant to sit there, what with the permeating and smouldering bodily stench and the smell of free flowing alcohol...after a while it just becomes an impenetrable bunker for the few.
Today we see the man from Connaught move in, he whips out his hose and gives the bunker some welly from his water spout. Whoosh and in a flick of the wrist normal cleanliness returns. Disinfectant pours forth with real power and no doubt once it all dries to a spic and span finish, you and me might happily linger there and enjoy the harbour views once again. Well...maybe
In Dover the Connaught team still seems to be in action following the recent gloomy stories of liquidation. Not sure of the full story there but some seem to have kept their jobs.

18:0971705I`ve been up and down there all Summer Paul, and as you say, it`s been a bunker for the few and not a very good advert for us. Surely there`s something that could have been done, or has everyone given up on it all?

Iunderstand where your coming from. and some of the individuals are intimidating.
I sat waiting for someone in market square and was disturbed when about 20 high lager people causing commotion and unning in and out of unsuspecting tourists/locals
One riding his push bike at speed not even seeing anyone around him

18:3471708the problem is made worse by people sleeping there at night, they urinate where they sleep or sit, finding it too complicated to simply take one stride and do it over the railing into the sea.
then they thoughtfully leave their fast food containers together with uneaten food and empty beer cans for the rest of us to enjoy.
during the day is hardly any better.

08:0771806There is actually a public loo 60 yards away but do they use it...no.
It is a pity but there doesnt seem anything we can do to reclaim our public areas as happens in Pencester too. Previously this chap with the hose had to call the police here to this shelter because the guys occupying it refused to move and he couldnt do the necessary spraying. The police came and moved them and he was then able to get on with it.

18:2771872i think that the cleaning referred to by paulb is in aid of it being decorated.
the one at the opposite end of the prom near the seasports centre was cordoned off this afternoon and a decorators can parked next to it.
all a bit of a coincidence, we have the brand spanking new promenade, now the tarting up of the shelters, nothing to do with making a product more attractive to a potential buyer though.

18:4571874Maybe the current lodger`s have put a bid in for it Howard? Incidently, in this politically correct country, I trust the current occupier`s had a say in what colour they wanted it painted?

20:1972021update on the seafront, the former churchill hotel has a team working on it, i suspect that the new owners are looking at spring for an opening date, in time for the cruise ships.
the other shelter is being attended to by a team of decorators, and many benches are being painted.
it seems that all the benches removed because of the sea front have been relocated meaning there are more seats than ever before.
met colin today and we spent the best part of an hour putting the world to right whilst enjoying the sun and seaviews.
after that met his delightful sister(nothing like colin)!!
