I may not be a blue rinser myself, but as a WI member for many years - but, as Jan says, we are not all jam and jerusalem... definitely not...

I am surprised however at Ruth Bond commenting on politics - one thing the WI is well known for is that it does NOT get involved in either politics or religion - hence the slow clapping for Tony Blair once when he said something political at one of their meetings when he was guest speaker.

Charlie - there are not many WI markets left - l although the WI's standards on food preparation and cookery were very high, I think it is mainly the question of having enough members who would be prepared to help run a market and all it entails. The extremely successful Sandwich WI market finished a few years ago, members there (which I was for a while) started selling on the stall very early in a morning, and most of the helpers were very hard working pensioners ! Some WI members do help at the River coffee morning and market held in River Village Hall, and home made cakes are sold there.
