A Celebrity Cruises staff member jumped presumably to his death on Friday night while the ship he was on was making its way through the English Channel the Jersey lifeboat crew were called out.
The unnamed 31-year old Filipino man can be seen on the ship's closed-circuit television climbing over the railing and jumping from the Celebrity Eclipse around 10:15 on Friday night.
The ship was eight miles north of Cherbourg, France as part of a 14-night Italian Mediterranean cruise that left Southampton on May 7th
This is the second incident I've heard of this week. My brother and his family have just returned from a cruise and a Russian guest went overboard and was lost at sea.It would appear that the once demure and sedate days of cruising are a-changing.

Very strange you would think they love the life at sea , one has to question if they were over worked to push them to such actions?

It is very sad when someone commits suicide. Sometimes it is something that can appear trivial to another person that pushes them over the edge.

Yes the ship in question was one of the Celebrity Cruise Liners as you mention marek..just as another one from the same line was entering Dover Harbour yesterday.
The death happened on the Eclipse, we had the Constellation here. Pic or two on frontpage of the Constellation also on the Dover Today thread.

I heard a disturbing story that cruise liners are fast becoming the ideal method of disposing of your enemies...a fond favourite of the ever expanding and wealthy Russian mafia and their henchmen.

a lot of illicit drugs are moved on cruise liners, they say there is less chance of a cruise passenger being stopped by customs than other travellers.
