23:2880078Sunday, the only night of the week that I have radio 2 on, (radio 3 being the normal or cd`s), and heard something interesting. Frank Ifield was singing `I Remember You` from 1962 on the 9pm show, which always plays some good music of allsorts with snippet`s of info`. Also, seventy year`s ago tonight the city of Coventry had that deadly German bombing raid. The link between this info is that Frank Ifield was born in Coventry but didn`t emigrate to Australia until after the war. I got up after retiring for the evening and restarted the computer to let you know that. any Frank Ifield fans out there?
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

23:3480080Went to Coventry a couple of months ago, it is nice that the cathedal remains as a memorial and it surprised me at the amount of old buildings remain
Been nice knowing you :)

08:5780104He used to be good in the sixties - a man of the time, a strong voice and plenty of yodelling. Nostalgia is probably what makes us think him good.

10:1580109Yes he was indeed very popular once upon a time. I remember that "I Remember You" song very well. It was a big number one as I remember and he did some yodelling in it. I remmber I had never heard someone yodelling before I had to ask my mother what sort of an affliction it was. I was young..she explained that the Swiss do it. Ive been going to Switzerland ever since but never heard anyone yodelling !

Im still searching for the Swiss yodeller.
Ive also been in Coventry Cathedral both the ruined one and the new one. It was very many years ago and ColetteB has a crucifix made from the nails of the Old Cathedral...bought on the site.
The new cathedral is fantastic..., beautifully done. My memory tells me there is a huge green hanging canvas by Graham Sutherland of the crucifixion, just behind the altar. Outside the entrance there is a magnificent sculpture of St Michael being tormented by the Devil. The stonework and the stained glass all rather excellent. I hope Im remembering all this right as it was a very long time ago.

10:4980111This is a photo I took of the orginal stained glass windows from Coventry Cathedral, and no comments about not realising I was THAT old please
They were removed for safe keeping before the war (did someone know something), and the story goes they were found by an Icelander after the war in a scrap yard in London, who bought them for installing in the church in Akureyri in the north of Iceland. They are now one of the biggest tourist attractions in the area in spite of needing to climb a massive set of steps to get to the church. As far as I know there's no campaign to get them back along with our money.

18:5780154Are they still Bachelor`s Bern? Yes they were great too, though despite my liking of `I Believe`, I could never take to `Diane`.
