Tonight the Labour led town council has proposed to put council tax up 5.5%
Lets hope we see some benefit
The usual cry is its not much
But when added to
Fire a nd rescue bill
Police bill
DD C bill
KCC
It's hefty
Please don't give another £350,000 away to a body unaccountable to DTC

Personally I'd be a lot happier if Town Councils spent my money on services rather than spaffing it away on various 'good causes'.
DeaL Town Council is actually only in charge of toilets (which they pay DDC to do, flower baskets, allotments and the 'market'.
This takes a staff of 10+ at a cost of over £250,000 who spend their days dealing with carbon neutrality, climate change, Fair Trade and other generally right-on stuff so the councillors can feel even more worthy and smug, as well as giving money away to anyone who claims they are doing something vaguely charitable for the locals.

I tend to agree with the Captain, councils are there to provide our basic much needed services, anything else is simply unnecessary window dressing.
When everyone else has had to tighten their belts such frippery should not come out of our pockets.

Here's one to think on
On DTC lab only holds the council by the casting vote of the Mayor
9 lab
9 indy/tory
So lab could have lost this vote as one lab person was a bsent
C Precious one of the indies broke ranks and supported the increase giving lab the majority
Interesting...

How exactly does an independent break ranks?

Hi reg
Lab has the majority vote. And in effect the conservatives and indies are the opposition
Together they have 9 votes each
I don't believe much in this independent ticket
Independent of what?

Training days from external 'carbon neutral champions' don't come cheap!
btw, how's the Mayor's 4WD leased gas guzzler coming along? At least in Deal they are leasing an electric vehicle which they don't use much either.

At least DDC kept the rise in their precept to 2.6% albeit only DTC & Kent Police raised theirs by more (5.5% & 5.2% respectively).
What in hell are DTC doing firstly applying a 5.5% rise in precept and secondly spending £804,844 per annum of our money on?

Rather than the Bank of England printing money to give emergency cash to every household it would be better to just scrap council tax for a year.

They would still need to fund local authorities as they do lots of things we rely on - social care, refuse collection, street cleaning etc etc etc
