just been reading that shepway are having to make cuts in their "culture and communities" and "community safety departments.
there are 20 people employed over the two.
what on earth does a "culture and communities" department actually do, as far as i can ascertain dover district council has got by without having one?

Just different wording Howard - things like sports, museums, community grants, leisure.....

Different councils organise their departments differently. The function of that department in DDC may be part of another department or spread around more than one. Maybe DDC do not operate those particular functions... I really do not know.

Dover equivalent appears to be called Leisure, Culture & Tourism

no Howard that is one of the biggest problems with shared services - nothing is exactly comparible as responsibilities vary greatly in different areas

interesting point paul, which job comes under which umbrella etc.
when you add to that section heads that will want to protect their own staff and empire, this could all add up to a dogs breakfast of meetings and negotiations.
no doubt the public services unions will have their say too.
