Mostly how to pick up the slack left by DDC. There was a lot of discussion on the precept rise. We could have left it the same and got through next year on the reserves (which are not exactly spare cash as they have been built up to pay for such things as public toilet provision, tourist information and the Western Heights playing fields) but this would leave us unable to cover the following year without a large rise. As town and parish councils will; be capped that would mean an even larger increase needed to cover not only necessary provisions but also the legally required referendum to approve it. On top of that central government is cutting funding on local sports provision, among other things, which will make the provision of playing fields even more important. The agreed rise in the precept was kept to 2%, just enough to get us through to 2012/2013.
Another thing discussed was the results from our public consultation in which the vast majority of the respondents stated that they were more than willing to pay a bit more to ensure the provision of services.
