20:5283734Yes they have started The Council's vice Chairman Cllr Sue Nicholas was tonight complaining that she didn't get a mince pie and after 23 years on the Council this is the worse she had known it.She then disappeared into her broom cupboard.(think she had a bottle of sherry in there)
Some of us got there early and did get a sausage roll and a mince pie(my dinner) still as I pointed out to Sue it will be better next year after the Election because Labour will be in charge!
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

21:0383737i think you mean deputy chair john.
i think you may be right about the reds regaining control next may, historically a new government suffers at the polls after their first year in charge.
could be that gordon will be elevated to sainthood soon after.

21:2183740No John is correct Im Vice Chairman .Its true I have never seen such a poor show .In the old days all the lady members wore a dressy outfit and some of the men?It was a lovely atmosphere .Now hardly a Christmas Greeting
.I did try to cheer people up with my banter .It takes a lot of self control to sit through a meeting unable to speak .
Next year will be different

i am finding all this rather confusing, vic calls you the stand in, others have different epithets.
in order to bring some normality to the situation, could you confirm that you were sporting an item of headwear please?

00:2383760Actually it was a Full Council meeting but the budget was on the agenda.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

10:3183779Mostly how to pick up the slack left by DDC. There was a lot of discussion on the precept rise. We could have left it the same and got through next year on the reserves (which are not exactly spare cash as they have been built up to pay for such things as public toilet provision, tourist information and the Western Heights playing fields) but this would leave us unable to cover the following year without a large rise. As town and parish councils will; be capped that would mean an even larger increase needed to cover not only necessary provisions but also the legally required referendum to approve it. On top of that central government is cutting funding on local sports provision, among other things, which will make the provision of playing fields even more important. The agreed rise in the precept was kept to 2%, just enough to get us through to 2012/2013.
Another thing discussed was the results from our public consultation in which the vast majority of the respondents stated that they were more than willing to pay a bit more to ensure the provision of services.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

11:5383789the situation will get steadily worse, the communities chap mr pickles has told councils to dip into their reserves.
he appears to think that local authorities are just sitting on money for the sake of it, in actual fact the money is mostly earmarked for something and the rest is needed to cope with emergencies.
