A very colourful post Simon, I have now read the thread and will make a couple of points.

You mention politicians putting their heads above the parapet, unfortunately out of around 60 or 70 town, district and county councillors only 2 or 3 ever do. There are enough local forums to air their views and answer any questions the pubic might have.
The other professions you mention are not voted in by us so do not have to be held to account, just nice when they proffer an opinion.

This leaves the handful that do post in the open so they take the flak for all the others hiding behind the sofa or even the Town Clerk's desk. Sue would be the first to admit that she sometimes goes in feet first and comes across badly but i note that on the relevant Facebook page their is not one comment from her fellow councillor leaving Sue to take the brunt of the jibes on there.
