  I avoided this conundrum Tom by not using the BT email address, which they provided, when I changed Internet providers. I continued to use an existing email address which I had also used to access my BT telephone account before I took on their broadband.
  
  This also allows me to change providers, should I wish to do so, without further complications. My new computer made me spit feathers for a while as it was running Windows 8 OS; the email client was Microsoft live and meant I had to register with them to receive mail. I got round this by using my existing email address format and associating the POP 3 accounts.
  
  So the same address is recognised by Microsoft and my old POP 3 account provider.
  
  I also included the BT yahoo account just in case BT used it to contact me anytime. I have not given it out to anyone else and so far it all works fine. They pick up my mail from my original Internet provider without any problem.
  
  The only slight niggle is when I pick up mail via my IPad and all three clients pick it up. I just open 1 and delete the other 2 without opening them.
  
  I don't store documents or photo's online as I have a 750 GB Hard Drive and use a flash drive for a rolling back up along with indexed DVD copies as an extra fail safe.
  
  For purchases from Apple I use I tunes cards to avoid registering Credit Card details.
  
  Virus control operates on the router and a separate one on the computer with the installed Rapport programme to check banking and other sensitive sites.
  
  Possibly overkill but it all seems to work fine so far!
