whilst perambulating this morning along the seafront i thought to myself what impression are our allies walking from the cruise terminal getting.
first they would have seen this charming lay out supplied by the lady that runs the seafood stall.
then they would have enjoyed our award winning promenade.
after that they would have taken in the special aromas emanating from the subway.
finally they would have been confronted with this.

I am sure they have road works where they come from Howard.
Cheer up the fountain playing, I expect the big screen was showing something of real interest to them, plus a bit of green in the flowerbed, colour provided by the blue 'to let' sign

.
What more could you want to welcome those money spending visitors.

Good picture at the top there Howard. Yes they are certainly making an effort there with the seafood stall..hope it continues to succeed. The sun came out later and it all looked pretty good with the colourful umbrellas. But alas once you venture inland it does look bleak...barren flowerbeds and what have you. One cant help but think of the Lonely Planet.
Saw lots of cruise visitors in the Dover Marina Hotel yesterday so am very glad to see the Hotel doing well and fulfilling a vital role. The seafront is just great now too. Cruise passengers by nature are generally affluent and up the social scale hovering between A and C and therefor used to a certain level of service and quality. We are providing it on the seafront.

the market seems to get scruffier by the week, it needs someone to plan it out.
it was originally planned that there would be a colour scheme for the awnings(think that's the word).

There were many things planned for the Market, Howard when I was involved; sadly the (Dover) Chamber seem to have lost all interest in it, even taking off their man's name and contact details for when people want further info. They just have the market manager, who is not part of Dover Chamber of Commerce.
Let's hope something else comes along.

The seafront really has come up trumps - a lovely advertisement for a disappointing town centre. It could be really enticing and interesting. How are we ever to generate any income and interest if the town is let down so badly by its reps? People operating near the seafront are putting the town centre to shame! I had an amble along the seafront and back via the underpass and through town a few days ago and the contrast was shocking.

Another thing which is conspicuous by its absence from Dover is a commercial fishing fleet. Deal, Folkestone, Hythe and a host of other towns around the coast have commercial boats - why not Dover, the home of the eponymous sole?

i always thought that the reason we had no fishing fleet was due to the port being so busy with ferries, containerships and cruise liners.
having said that, is there a reason that the shakespeare beach could not be used?
