Remember Sweden, liberal, clean, peaceful etc? Seems like it's not quite the country it was with even their police chiefs now admitting that they are now finding it difficult to cope with the influx of immigrants and their particular "activities".
Have the Swedes got it so wrong in how they deal with this issue or can we perhaps sadly expect much the same for the U.K. a bit further down the line?

It's always good to have a balanced view of things and at least in this case it's reassuring to know that the numerous reports and videos etc., actually emanating from Sweden on this subject are most likely exaggerated lies, half-truths and misconceptions.
Depending on who you believe of course!

Of course there are no 'no go' areas. Just like there are non in London.
Whether anyone in their right mind would go to parts of London, especially after dark, carrying a laptop or openly using a mobile 'phone is another matter!
And THIS is from the Guardian NOT the Express/Mail!

Sweden and Germany took in large numbers of people that they knew nothing about so deserve any problems they get. Sweden did it because they have always accepted people in the past for humanitarian reasons, Germany did it to get skilled people in and keep wages down.
Thankfully people from overseas find it a lot harder to enter the UK hence so many try to do it illegally.

Going off the thread which is about Muslim no go areas and my experience of London is that Tottenham, Hackney and Dalston were and apparently still are places to avoid after dark and they are not predominantly Muslim areas.

To the best of my knowledge, there have been so-called no go areas in the UK since the early seventies, one which I experienced first hand was in Leicester.
The spitting video bears out what Laura told me about in Cologne (see my post somewhere else !)
I drove into Malmo a couple of years ago, because an internet 'friend' of mind was telling me how unpleasant it had become where she lived, mainly due to gang fights (presumably) with the new immigrants trying to take over the local biker gang's business interests. That part of Malmo is not at all pleasant to drive through, we were stared at by nearly every pedestrian, and even cut up (car, not knife) in traffic a couple of times. Thought it was probably best to turn around and head out, which I duly did. I have no wish to return.

Barrie
Whereabouts in Leicester?
I have always found Leicester a largely successful multicultural city. There is an acceptance that we are not all the same but respect for all and more and more integration into the suburbs and county over time.

Judith, It was about 35 years ago that I was visiting my brother in Oadby, and I was driving northwards through the city towards Loughborough and at one point we had some missiles thrown at the car by local youths. All I can remember is that is was north of the city centre. I have also had a similar experience in Southall in the eighties.
Things have obviously improved over the years.

That sounds grim Barrie. I don't think that would happen now. Thre was a lot of civil unrest in many cities in the 80s. Does your brother still live in Oadby?
