As some of you know I am having a good clear out at home.
And I have come across all the press cutting I have saved over many years ,so because you all love me so much I am going to put them in the forum

Most are about Dover and my time spent on the town council .Are they about me,Yes they are

good ego trip as some of you would say.Might help if I add my name to the by- election at the town council

Well everybody I have also had a good sort out .I have emptied four boxes of invites, programmes. Etc into one large box.I have several boxes of press cuttings spanning over thirty years. My son in law is gradually clearing my loft and I still have over 100 letters of objection when there was a campaign to sell the Rec for housing.I have shredded all the paper work from 18 years on Age Concern and my 10 years as a school governor.
So far two hats have gone only 22 Left .Yes we all have our memories but they will come in handy as I hope to give talks to various organisations.

"As some of you know I am having a good clear out at home."
I wish at times we could have a clear out on this forum.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

I bet Sue could tell a few good yarns about her 100 years on the council, I can remember the meeting at the Town Hall many years ago about whether we should have the big screen from the Olympic organising committee. This was at a time when Sue and her fellow councillor Nigel Collor were at loggerheads over it. Nigel for it, Sue against it and me just there to hear the arguments. Anyway Nigel and myself were amongst the first to arrive so obviously we sat next to each other. Sue with her army of cohorts came in and sat on the other side of the hall and Sue scowled across during the meeting.Later on she said "I saw you and your little mate conspiring".

This one to start it off with Dover Express date 27.4.2006. Cull on Pigeons voted through.I had hate mail from all round the world with this one.At a public meeting about it a member of the public got up and shouted" They should get rid of you ,the pigeons have been here before the war"
I said that makes them the oldest pigeons in the world."

Councillor warns of trouble at new flats build in FOLKESTONE rd ,
This headline turned out to be true it went on to say cllr Vic Matcham who represents Maxton,Elms Vale, and Priory Ward, told the meeting of the district council planning committee at the public meeting last Thursday when the proposals were apprroved-that converting the empty buildings in Folkestone rd would be detrimental to the quality of life of people living in the road.
His concerns were supported by the Kent Police, who said in the district council,s report that "Clusters "of criminals living in cheap accommodation had led to complex crime and social problems in the road, including bootlegging, drug dealing, robbery, burglary, and car crimes.
Later in that report the councils chief planning and building control officer Mr Mike Dawson said."That the flats were aimed at preofessionals commuters and first time buyers "and were needed because it was difficult for first-time buyers to afford homes.
This is the part of that report at that time which I found upseting and not true,he then went on to say.
This area is changing ,this is the kind of property with the right links to public transport that could be very much in demand.
That is only a small part of what I said at that time ,sorry but how wrong could the council and its officers of the day get it.And they were told time and time again not only by my self but other councillors what would happen if they went a head with all the flats.Again this was reported in the Dover Express by Miss Sarah Linney who was then a very good reporter .

wrote by Neil Clements .A campaign launched by town cllr Vic Matcham to secure the highest civilian decoration for gallantry for the town of Dover.
I did start this up and then I asked the now mayor of Dover Mr Precious,he did join up with me and was a great help in writing the right letters to the press and then the PM of the UK Mr Blair after being in the papers all over the UK and on TV we could not get it because to many years had passed by from the war.
But Mr Precious did carry on the fight to get it after I packed it in.
But again even with our on MP joining in it still did not happen and must say if it had happen it would have been great for the town.Mr Precious did work very hard for some years and I thank him for doing it.
More headlines to come.
