Godfrey Bloom MEP, the UKIP Energy spokesman, said:
"The Government doesn't have the bottle to make serious spending cuts, so it is plainly absurd that they make things even harder for people by deliberately ramping up energy costs."
The increase in energy bills is not only due to the policy of the suppliers, but also to the Government's Climate Change Act (which is also Labour's). UKIP sees the problem as stemming from this Act and all the red tape it implies for businesses.
My personal view is that carbon reduction policies should come about through technical innovations, hence research, not through red-tape policies (carbon tickets for businesses or "buying or selling" carbon rights etc. between nations (see Kyoto protocol).
