Farewell Clive Robert Benjamin Dunn
scourge of the up-em wary Hun
a song and dance man, who liked to jest
a stickler for drill, if a little behind the rest

Dad's Army is one of the few comedies that is still enjoyable today, it is a great shame so many of those great actors Clive Dunn included are no longer with us.
Gillian, I have the opposite opinion of the song Grandad, I hate it.

Another 'old soldier' lost, R.I.P Clive Dunn, you brought and still bring laughter to viewers.

My favourite as well Howard, that's the one with Captain Mannering's immortal line, "Don't tell 'em yer name, Pike"

" Uncle's Army
SIR - The death of Clive Dunn (Obituaries, November 8), who was much loved as Lance-Corporal Jones in Dad's Army, reminds me of a conversation I had with my uncle, Robert Bridgeman, who had been GSO1 (chief of staff) on General Lord Gort's staff in the British Expeditionary Force in 1940 and after Dunkirk, was given the job, as a major general, of Director-General of the Home Guard until its disbandment in 1945.
When Dad's Army was created, he was asked after the 12 or so initial episodes to become a technical advisor, to ensure the authenticity of the series. He told me: "I was not able to give them very much help - except to assure them that it was cruelly accurate!"
