I took a walk to help sort out a problem for a resident of Clarendon Street this afternoon and took my camera and walked along the above alleyways to see for myself, what (if any) fly-tipping and other rubbish had been dumped there.
When the Priory Forum last did a clean-up in these alleys, it was greatly helped by lots of people - residents came out and helped and Una Mills the community officer at DDC asked the guys from Veolia if they could/would walk along both alleyways on a Wednesday to sweep up any dog-poo and other smallish items of litter.
A commitment was made that they would indeed walk along and keep clean both alleyways, but that sadly seems to have ceased.
I find it difficult to understand how people can do this kind of thing and how they must live.

This is someone's backgarden can you believe.
Needless to say, I've written to a number of departments at DDC.

It certainly is Brian. I hope it doesn't take too long to clear it away.

I hope there are no arsonists in the area just imagine the damage from a light match.
How can people live in such conditions?

I thought all this had ended in the alleyways until Roger downloaded the photos although i suspect that a lot of this is on private land which means that DDC/Veolia can do nothing about it.

There are many front and back gardens that are neglected and unfortunately not always by lazy tenants or those who are no longer capable of looking after them.

I think that most of the gardens that back on to the alleyways and that includes Folkestone Road for the bottom Alley, and Clarendon Street for both and Place for the top alley, the vast majority of neglected gardens, are where tenants rather than owner-occupiers, live. I also think the landlords should bear some of the responsibility.

Very true Roger but the particular establishment I am thinking of has the landlord living at the premises and that garden is the worst in the whole street.

Just been along Clarendon Place, must be a dozen or so houses with rubbish bags and/or furniture at the front.

its an aweful site and view too. Also dangerous to animals and children playing in that alleyway. i walked along a couple of times, feels like slum and dumping place rather than a pleasure....
Something needs to be done about this. Especially if you have tourists walking the hills which is happening alot for the last view years. :)
