Howard, that is because Morrisons have a strict policy of no overtime which is why there are no spare staff to call when the check outs are busy.
My daughter was asked to go in on a non working day as there was nobody to cover her counter, her payment for doing them this favour was to be sent home early on the following Sunday rather than Morrisons pay the extra hours money, needless to say she will refuse to help again.

sorry to hear that jan, not a good decision on their part - recently only about half the check outs have been operative when i have been in there resulting in frustrated customers.
Nothing to do with keeping the company profit margins up then.
