we get this every year, what surprises me is that most move from one cold dark part of the country to another.
most of those going abroad are not going where the sun is either.

you're on form today keith, maybe the places you have visited were run by parish and district councils that work in harmony together for the greater good?

I shall be partaking in this Christmas getaway tomorrow by crossing the channel. Although I do not lookforward to what I know will be a horrendous drive through Antwerp (reminds me of the M25) there is something about this time of year that does not bother me, I'm in no hurry and as long as I eventually get to my destination safely that's all that matters.
On that note I'll take this opportunity to wish everyone on Dover Forum a Very Happy Christmas whatever they are doing an look forward to more discussions in the New Year!!

Keeps politics to myself

I say what i see
villages/small towns thriving
unbelievable in this tiny village car park set aside for coaches marshalled in and people given guide to village
locals all friendly
everyone in the mood to get the tourists in
even collections for fire brigade/sea rescue/plus other charities also getting in the swing selling mulled wine minece pies
fire persons giving out sweets
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,AND THEN I CAME BACK TO DOVER

Have a lovely trip Helen..we will welcome you back in due course.
There was a report i referred to earlier on some thread about a village that found that events attracted huge crowds and kept their shops alive..I mentioned it along with the Loyalty Card thing. Today we here something similar about Rochester...packing them in and worth a fortune to the town..they are all gone Dickensian. I havent got too many details just heard it in passing but we get the gist. Might hear more on it later...trade booms with these kind of things.
We have terrific prospects for next year too...look at that list of visting ships next year on the Frontpage, very impressive but can we capitalise.
But as for tripping...Im not a great one for tripping this time of year, never took to the ski slopes meself..

yes paulb
rochester packs them in as this village did
just with a little bit of thought and preperation
some of it would be so easy to do
with the right mindset

rochester has always had tbe association with charles dickens, i believe they have built a theme park in the last few years based on the writer.
i saw that filmed report earlier and what struck me was the attitude and enthusiasm of the traders!!

brian;
no matter the theme with some preperation/work/thought
Dover could share in the boost for the town.
I have doubt i will be saying the same next year as all the agencies blame each other for lack of action

what would the theme be though?
i was told that the war time street in the "white cliffs experience" was top class, but the whole thing folded.
let's have some ideas on this one.

howard;
the war theme was good in the white cliffs, problem was it didnt change, thus once you had seen it you didnt they go back.
but dover probably best-placed for a war theme
but it would be about engaging every agency to make it a bumper scheme
worked out in great detail
planned well in advance
