Judging by the road-sign the tree is more trunk than branch. All the more room to stack the presents high?

Excuse me for stating the flipping obvious but would it have not made sense to hold the evening carnival at the same time as the lights are switched on?

Sandwich have a Christmas carnival, well they did a few years back when daughtter Saskia was involved, not sure if they still do it now. I remember, it coincided with their Christmas light switch-on & it was a magical experience, cold but when wrapped up warm, partaking of some warm mulled wine accompanied by an equally warm mince pie then it's totally worth it

I'm really worried that I'm going to snag my broomstick on those lights on the 31st October!
That's exactly what I had in mind Colette, it's the magical highlight for millions of children(and adults) at Disneyland. If the floats have a winter theme they can wrap up to keep warm and still look the part. Carols played by the marching bands, fairy lights and tinsel. I'm convinced it would be a major draw.

Saw a house earlier in Folkestone Road with a fully decorated tree filling its front window.

I love the lights at Christmas more than anything else. However I have to agree with BarryW-S - it is too early. If they are up too early the novelty wears off. Also I hate to see lights still up after New Years Eve when we are all back at work!
Does that make me a Victoria Meldrew?

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".
