On Andrew Neil's politics show they discussed Gordon Brown's 'biscuitgate' indesicion during which Neil described Dianne Abbot as a Chocolate HobNob and Michael Portillo as a Custard Cream.....
The nutty BBC went into panic mode (15 complaints apparently), pulled the programme from iPlayer and stopped repeats. Apparently the biscuit comparision was thought to be a reference to race....
So what if it is. Neil was not being insulting to his two guests (and friends).... Why should it matter if Chocolate HobNob was a reference to Dianne Abbots rich skin tone. Can't say I would decribe Portilo's as 'creamy'' though!
Why on earth are some people so touchy about any reference to race. It is frankly absurd and devalues the nastyness of real tangible rascism. The BBC really need to get itself sorted out and develop a backbone and the 15 who complained need to get a life.
So, what biscuit would you be descibed as:
Keith: what about a Jammy Dodger
Bern: perhaps something very fruitie - garibaldi maybe
PaulB: shortbread
Victor: peanut cookie
Barry W-S: Rich Tea
I could go on, what do you think....
me: I love oatmeal cookies....
