Without going into all the history of the tragic case I saw a documentary a couple of years ago that threw a lot of doubt over the conviction. Firstly there was no DNA evidence of Stone being anywhere near the crime and secondly he was known for using violence as a means of gaining monetary reward, which never applied with the events at Chillenden. Most of all it struck me it me that like all druggies he never went a yard further from his place of abode than he needed to so why would he travel many miles to an area he didn't know to commit a crime that was of no benefit to him.
Levi Bellfield has always fitted the bill and his obvious amusement he showed at the trial of the murdered Milly Dowler says rather a lot.
