  Perhaps when the tax credit cuts take effect obesity may become a thing of the past due to the effects of malnutrition as was prevalent in my childhood days. Poverty does have this effect on children, I cannot remember having one obese friend as a child in Ladywood in Birmingham, then as now one of the poorest areas of the UK. I personally would prefer to see a well fed child who is happy as opposed to an underfed one.I suggest he reads the novels of his colleague Nadine Dorries to illustrate my point. Perhaps he has read them and wants us to return to those grim days.
