According to Humphy (yes we've been to Jolleys) these lights have been up the creek since the weekend. Walking past yesterday afternoon I noted that they were out and motorists were using the junction cautiously. I was about to report it when I bumped into PCSO Tracey Brittenden hot footing it along Granville Street.
This morning the generator sounded somewhat strained and all the lights were slowly pulsing red causing much confusion in the rain.
I called the police who at first said they had no "Charlton Green" on the system. If you'll pardon the pun, we've been down that road before! Clarifying it to Bridge Street/Frith Road I was told that there were no reports but it would be passed to Highways.
Just to cheer everyone up. Mention has been made about how long the "temporary" situation will go on for both here and at Cherry Tree. Last week I went to Canterbury and saw the new pedestrian crossing on Tourtel Road that was started in November. It's still not finished.

Some slight good news. Walked past it earlier and they appeared to be changing the generator.

Yes a under pass would help the walkers even more now that they are building new homes on the other side of where the shops are.Somthing needs to be done soon.

An underpass in this area would be a lot lower than the river and would flood much too easily, all it needs is the pedestrian crossing back or the lights to work as they were with both sets paused for a while on red.
The big problem for pedestrians is trying to cross Maison Dieu Road in the Albert Road Crafford Street area because of the stream of cars that can suddenly speed out of the supermarket car park.

I'm told by an erstwhile member of the DF that Nigel is on the case. Apparently "there has been a delay in getting the EDF supply to the lamp column disconnected", it was to happen next week but won't now until OCTOBER!. A temporary fix will be made and the temporary lights removed in a week or so.
Nigel is trying to get a more sensible Frith Road / Bridge Street ratio until then.
I would ask, now that the bulk of the work is finished, why is it still only two lanes? Bear in mind the kids are back at school and 08.30 will be a nightmare!

Sorry - Should have said back at school soon!

What with the Roundhill Tunnels, why is it that this country is so inept when it comes to maintinaing basic infrastructure? Our airports and rail system can't cope with snow and leaves, and now we are incapable of maintaining our roads without repairs taking six months "whilst we wait for the parts".

They still have not compleatly finished the cherry tree avenue/barton road part yet, they is still barriers by the school playing field.
What I can not understand is why start the job if it can not be finished,I am sure EDF know what was going on,& had planed for this work.

I know there is not as much traffic at peak times as the schools are still on holiday, but the two lanes have made Maison Dieu Road a lot safer. The cars come round the corner from Frith Road a lot slower therefore the boy racers can no longer race the car next to them to get round the corner first.
