The Administrators of Targetfollow Holdings Ltd who entered administration last October have put the Charlton Centre up for auction on 7th July at price guide of £500k.
Auction Company ACUITUS seem to have some very old description of tennants as they include Sainsbury and nearby B&Q. Since Sainsbury purchased their lease prior to moving out twenty years ago we all know in Dover this part of the Charlton Centre has, in the main, remained empty and become an eyesore (Improved recently due to the efforts of LRF).
Interesting from Day 1 of purchasing the Charlton Centre, Targetfollow have had it as part of a property portfolio for sale.

When the shop lease was coming up for renewal we investigated the cost of the old Sainsbury site which was available in smaller segments. The rent was enormous for even part of the tatty old leaky roofed building.
When I contacted Wilkinsons to ask if they were coming to the town last year I mentioned the available site but they showed no interest in it.

Chronic underinvestment, lack of creativity by local reps and poor networking by local bigwigs has impacted on our little town. The reps can't even clean it up properly to give a decent impression to those passing through.

This was always a puzzle to me. Why spread the shopping area any further out of town? Sainsburys and Benetton soon cottoned on and cleared off leaving a hole that has never been adequately filled.

I think you might find Asda will get it, and will end up as their car park,it is very hard as you know to get in and out of this site,if Asda take over the old car park they will then take down a few walls etc so the public can get to their shop with easy and back to their own car and alot better way of geting out again to the main rds.Wait and see if I am right .

If you are talking about the loading bay area I doubt that would ever happen, lorries and people do not mix. If Asda wanted to move there there has been plenty of time for them to do it since the cheap shop closed.

Both of you are forgetting that health and safety bods would not allow the public to use the Charlton Centre loading bay area and there is nowhere else for the lorries to unload.
Cheaper and safer for all concerned if the Castleton carpark exit was into Crafford Street. Crossing Maison Dieu to go up Albert Road as an aged pedestrian is a nightmare at the moment I dread to think what it will be like when Asda opens.

We are not talking about that part Jan ,we are talking about the coverd in car park which is still in use today, and I have already said about that, by doing that we would have two exits from the site.

Sorry Vic, I understand now. You mean the Charlton Centre car park that is now owned by the council if the gossip is correct.
There was a rumour about that happening when Asda first took over Netto ages ago and wanted to extend to the side, I thought the idea had been shelved.

No it is not owned by the council Jan but yes that is the one,it well might have been shelved then. So we wait and see but it would be a great help if it came about, more of the public would use the very good shops that are left in the centre and also might help get more shops in there. Thank you for your post.

Asda have applied for, and received, planning permission for a side extension to the Netto store. They have also furnished an opening date for the change from Nettos to Asda so it is very unlikely that they will be looking to move sites any time soon.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

hardly very polite vic!!
Vic
I agree that the existing Charlton Centre Car Park would be ideal for the new Asda. With the success of Morrisons and any increase in footfall at the new Asda parking will be at a premium and from what I see the Charlton Centre Car Park is far from fully utilised.
I was most surprised in post #11 by Jan in that rumour re council buying the car park as it is included in the auction list of the Charlton Centre (Lot 8).
Having said that the list shows Sainsbury as a tenant and indicates the nearby B&Q. So quite a lot of obsolete details.

You know what rumours are like they appear every now and then, the one about Jolleys and Farmfoods is still raising it's head now and then. I heard the one about the carpark before last Christmas but this is the first time I have repeated it.
