At the moment we want simple facts what a candidate will do for this area and the country, so I find these sort of personal attacks rather pointless from any candidate regardless of their party loyalties.

My statement on the departure of Mr. Elphicke and the selection of Mrs. Elphicke as new Conservative candidate for Dover and Deal:

Mr. Elphicke has been representing the area for nearly ten years and in that period of time, crime has soared, child poverty levels of over 30% are well above the national average, the number of those in in work poverty has rocketed and our local hospitals have been suffering the double strain of shameful underfunding and understaffing.
His tenure has more recently been marked by scandal. Mrs. Elphicke, his wife and the new Conservative candidate for Dover, claims to be a council housing champion and yet, under the Tories in our area, thousands remain trapped on council home waiting lists for years. Those lists only continue to grow.
In a time where trust in politicians is at an all-time low, Mr. Elphicke standing down only to be replaced by Mrs. Elphicke as the Conservative candidate for our area seems nepotistic at worst, and out of touch at best. We are not living in the eighteenth century and Dover is not a rotten borough where seats are passed down with a nod and a wink.
I’m a former teacher, school governor and mum of three. I’m a committed trade unionist and work each week with parents in the district desperate for a safe, secure place to call home.
I’m sure the people of Dover and Deal will welcome the chance to vote for a candidate, serious about change for our towns and villages, who is not a member of the Elphicke family.
