over the years more and more stuff sold in the outlets has been brand new rather than used goods donated by the public.
today i noticed that the heart foundation shop in market square/castle street has brand new beds selling at a discount.
the main business of the shop next door does all kinds of furniture but beds are a big part of it, seems unfair as they are paying full business rate.

I agree Howard - it is wrong. I'm not sure if it's illegal, but it shouldn't be allowed, it's against the ethos of a Charity Shop.
That Heart Foundation shop is only just a Charity shop as the vast majority of the profits do not go to BHF; they pay BHF just a small percentage of the money they take.

I never go into the BHF. The price of their paperbacks seems to be judged on thickness ! Sometimes £2.50 or £3.00 - for a s/h paperback ! Rediculous.
The Works sells brand new ones for the same or less.
I stick to St. Emmaus, 50p each and YMCA, 69p each.
Charity is a wonderful thing and God knows, they do a good job, but there's a limit.

Jeff, we used to have two Glorias when I was there, one from Tower Hamlets area retired and the Whitfield Gloria has moved to Sittingbourne to be near the family.
Sue, I will say thank you that will keep them on their toes. To anyone else they do collections as well usually on Thursday and sometimes Tuesday just ring the shop 01304 207911.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.
