Tried to make a small donation to UNICEF re; their appeal for children's Winter clothing in Syria, what a palaver. The ad called for a single donation but scrolling the monthly amount was highlighted so I deleted that and underlined single, the war is almost over anyway.
Next stage I thought would simply be card details but no they asked for my home address and E mail address. There is no way I am going to be bombarded with mail from other charities that my details would be sold on to - nett result no money sent, all rather self defeating of UNICEF.

I have briefly made comments on this general subject of charities
Having knowledge of Red Cross and St johns and how private companies rip them off collecting monies its not a good area for me
When you give monies to these charities you expect them to reach that organisation, not fund some private companies pockets.
its a sad area where you want these charities to do well but I'm certainly more reluctant to donate

Like Keith I do not like the way the big charities use their much needed donations.
There are only two large charities I give money to they are the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and British Legion otherwise I stick to Western Heights and Age Concern where to money stays local.

I know that every penny given to the RNLI goes direct to where it is meant, some of the bigger ones use 80% as overheads. I would never give to Cancer Research or the Heart foundation for that reason also that if some new wonder drug was discovered by either it would probably be priced too high for the NHS.

I forgot to put Kelly Turner's cause as hopefully that will not be running for long once they have raised the much needed money.
