    The bravery and sacrifice is undeniable PaulB, but with no other support - as you said the Navy, Airforce and Army were caught on the back-foot, surely it was a pointless exercise: "Into the Valley of Death, rode the 600", or in this case, "Into the Valley of Death, flew the 18".
