"Whether you try to answer back or creep away in silence, it's all the same: you're beaten up anyway, and then your furious 'victim' takes you to court."

Juvenal describing the streets of classical Rome.

Only the other day I was in town with my four year old daughter. We stopped into the museum and I had a pleasant chat and a joke with the helpful girls there while Thalia went to the toilet. Across Market Square, with two or three friendly greetings, to stop outside BigFillas where Thalia had a quick game of peek-a-boo with the owner, coming away with a big smile saying, "he's a nice man, I love him".

Saw Howard's smiling face and a quick natter as we made our way to Smiths where the staff were again friendly, helpful and chatty. The sun was shining, it was fairly warm and Howard got a photograph of the Eight Bells with nobody sitting outside. All in all a pleasant outing and not at all unusual in this wonderful town of ours.
