I've lost count how many times the Central Cafe in London Road has opened and closed. Yet again it appears that it will arise again slightly transformed into a "coffee house". I can't believe that anyone thinks that there is money to be made in this venture. In all of the various guises that it operated under in the last 20 odd years it only ever appeared to have trade in the early mornings when lines of scaffolding lorries blocked the side of the road.
On a similar subject, numbers 2 and 3 London Road (formerly MHK) have a planning application for a cafe on the ground floor. Surely this is overkill for this part of the world. Strangely the application has been made by the chap who has opened and closed two other cafes in the road. They didn't get any trade, I wonder why he expects this one to!
