'The plans complement existing projects to rejuvenate Dover town centre, including the £9.1m Lottery funded restoration of the Grade I Listed Maison Dieu, Dover Town Hall, and a £2.95m Coastal Community Fund project to revamp Market Square, as well as a £2.9m project to comprehensively redevelop part of Bench Street'.
So that brings it to £18.2 million in total! Serious money that you could do a serious amount of good with.
As the good Mr Dixon puts it above 'more rubbish stuff' coming up. They've got previous for it.

£2.9m to ‘comprehensively redevelop’ part of Bench St. Which part? It’s only 50 yards long and half of that is car park!

I believe the Captain may have double counted. The KentOnline article refers to the Future High Street Fund. This is not a new fund and is the source of cash for development around Bench Street. announced a number of months back. The original DDC application was to undertake a 4-part project - Connect Market Street to York St across the Roman Lawn; Purchase the old Dorothy Perkins building to replace the old Coop home for Co-Innovation; Refurbish the subway and build a creative centre and half a dozen or so flats on the Bench street carpark. DDC were not successful with the complete bid and so the cash that has been awarded will go towards the last two of the aforementioned projects.
