Change is always a challenge, but sometimes it really is for the better. No-one likes the idea of needing support or care and letting a bit of independence slide away, but the reality is that we sometimes do need more support. Better to have it in a way that enhances rather than diminishes independence and dignity, that leaves room for privacy and choice. Because care has been delivered in one way for a long time does not mean it is the best way to deliver it. It is hard to adapt, though, and especially for older people. Also a bit scary to contemplate potential loss of familiarity - but with the right help to do it it can be done. Sometimes the energy that goes into resistance is mis-placed and could be better used on supporting change and helping people to manage.
