09:4892052A bit on the late side though as Julie Rook has already spoken to a group of Deal people who want to form a CIC and arranged for them to have talks with KCC

10:0592053Talks are on going however to enlist the support of your local MP is not a bad thing .If our MP had not spoken he would have soon been slated in the press and indeed on here .
Well done to our MP he certainly has a high profile .

10:2292153Alexandrs House rings a bell .Alan no one likes change .Cornfields owned by KCC .There will be a new Extra Care home on the site .Im sure you have seen the one at Buckland Buckland Court .This is the way forward to allow people to live in modern accomodation with care when as when required .Its a step up from the old sheltered schemes .
If you have not been there may i suggest you pop along and see this wonderdful facility .
It may well be your friend will be transferred in time to the new build at Whitfield .
You have to look to the future .People these days want to remain independant and only have care when needed .

16:2692175Change is always a challenge, but sometimes it really is for the better. No-one likes the idea of needing support or care and letting a bit of independence slide away, but the reality is that we sometimes do need more support. Better to have it in a way that enhances rather than diminishes independence and dignity, that leaves room for privacy and choice. Because care has been delivered in one way for a long time does not mean it is the best way to deliver it. It is hard to adapt, though, and especially for older people. Also a bit scary to contemplate potential loss of familiarity - but with the right help to do it it can be done. Sometimes the energy that goes into resistance is mis-placed and could be better used on supporting change and helping people to manage.

Totally agree a 93 yr old Jerseygirl has today moved into the care home where my wife works. She is fully mobile, with aid of a frame. Administers her own inhalers and night oxygen and has her evening meal accompanied by a wine glass full of sherry!!!!
She needs looking over at night, companionship and the care of the staff. There are good homes and they play an important role in the community.

22:4992241That sounds like the sort of home I could live in.

I know at the back of my mind with my problems I will eventually have to go in one

and I will need one that allows me to live as I always have, with my nightcap and my versatile friend the computer.
