11:5990955been reading a report on the income generated by the above, makes interesting reading.
in the year ending march 2010 income from general parking fees and penalty charge notices amounted to £1,605,333 expenses were roughly half that.
i think this will mean that councils in general will be looking to raise charges in future to make up for the shortfall from central government.
records show that when parking charges rise there is a drop in usage for about 3 months then things go back to normal.

12:3690959Car parking is going up,in some case 25% and to help the DDC 40p to 50p is 25% Cllr Watkins argued at the recent Council meeting it isn't but I have checked on my Abbacus and it is.On average the rise is 10%.
The price for permits are staying put only after pressure from Cllr Gordon Cowan and conceeded by Cllr Coller so that is some good news and I am sure it will be covered here and in the local papers on Thursday.

12:5290963Parking always throws up mad percentage rises as you are never going to charge 42p for an hour for example.
Dover is still cheaper than most areas and there is still plenty of parking for FREE if people willing to walk for a couple of minutes !!!
Been nice knowing you :)

14:2490980You're right Scotchie and compared with others, our hours for charging are shorter as well as most places remaining free on Sundays.
Basically it is 10p per hour across the board and still pay by the minute in most places so if you only want a £1's worth you can still have a £1's worth.
Stewart - it was three years ago.

17:4191017My attitude to parking charges is softening a bit. When they went up 3 years ago I led a bit of a charge against DDC but in the present economic climate I do sympathise with the council. If you can afford to run a car you can afford to park it. An extra 10p per hour is hardly going to delay anyone's retirement through lack of funds.

18:5491029it seems one of the fairest ways of raising revenue, many people could find free parking or even walk into the town centre.
funny to watch nigel and john disagreeing, when they are actually saying the same thing.
10 pence is 25%

20:1691056The main point is that the cost per hour for parking is going up by 10p; if it's 80p it's going to 90p etc.
Whether you're talking 40 to 50p or whatever, the 10p rise is not significant.
3 years ago, I complained bitterly about the rise, now three years later, I believe DDC are justified in this modest rise.

20:1791057That is true Howard. The point is they are being selective in the car park they choose, had they picked the most used they would have quoted 10p on 80p or 90p. Different percentages.
Ideally what you have is the vat increase plus a catch up on three years inflation.
Still cheapest in East Kent.
So the message is shop in Dover/Deal town centres it is still costs less to shop locally and your petrol bill is reduced.
