Stating "A vote for Ukip is effectively a vote for the Lib Dems" is a fast one that the current major parties love to pull.

If enough voters are deterred in this way from voting for the party that they really want to vote for then we shall never see an end to this relentless swapping back and forth between the parties who have enjoyed power for the last century.

The major parties have had their day and none of them represent what they originally stood for. In most areas there is not a cigarette paper between them and they merely tinker at the edges of the dismal legacy left by their predecessor.

A vote for Ukip is a vote for a genuine alternative and we must hope for the sake of true democracy and a real choice that they get a good result in Eastleigh.

That they have well and truly put the wind up the major parties is amply demonstrated by the way in which the old Red and Blue warhorses on here never fail to pooh pooh their chances at every opportunity.
